Housing Animals Outside Approved Animal Facilities

 

  • Under no circumstances may animals be housed outside the centralized animal facilities without prior written approval from the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.

  • Animals may be kept outside the central animal facilities no more than 12 hours without written approval.
  • Laboratories where animal research activities are subject to periodic visitation by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

  • Housing Animals outside the animal facility for more than 24 hours is a violation of regulations governing animal care and use.
  • Investigators housing animals outside approved animal facilities may be subject to severe sanctions by the IACUC up to and including revocation of approval to use laboratory animals.
