All animals must be transported in accordance with the IACUC policy for Transporting animals.
Animals must be transported in secure transport cages.
Animals transported between buildings e.g. from the SOM to the Wolstein Research Building must be transported by ARC personnel. One or two cages of mice may be transported by trained investigators between buildings in a Mouse Transport Unit provided by the ARC.
Transport cages must be covered at all times when outside the animal facility.
Animals should not be transported in elevators labeled as restricted to animal movement.
Animals should always be provided adequate food and water while outside the animal facility unless justified by experimental procedures.
Animals may be removed from the conventional area of the Health Sciences Animal Facility and returned following experimental manipulation.
Animals in the Wearn Transgenic Animal Facility and the Wolstein Animal Facility may not be returned to the animal facility once they are transported to a laboratory.
Failure to comply with this policy may result in suspension of animal research activities following investigation by the IACUC.
