Anesthetic and Surgery Guidelines
Guidelines
For Anesthesia, Analgesia and Tranquilization
These guidelines were developed by the IACUC to provide guidance
to investigators in planning and conducting research. Investigators
should always consult with a veterinarian before you use a new anesthetic
or analgesic. Our goal is to provide maximal pain relief at the
appropriate time.
Guidelines
For Non-Rodent Surgery
Surgery performed on nonrodents must be conducted in one of the
approved operating rooms in the School of Medicine. The surgery
rooms must be scheduled in advance using a Procedure
Data Sheet . Instructions on how to use this sheet are found in the Procedure
Data Sheet FAQ .
Guidelines
For Rodent Surgery
Surgery on rodents may be performed in investigator laboratories
using the guidelines provided in this section. These guidelines
should be provided for all personnel conducting surgery on rodent
species. Periodic inspection of rodent surgery sites and observation
of personnel performing the surgeries is conducted by the IACUC
with the Training and Compliance Coordinator.
